V8 Supercars To Switch To Ethanol
By Mr Ethanol | October 10, 2008
Sydney Morning Herald:
V8 Supercars will switch from unleaded to CSR Ethanol fuel from next year in a bid to reduce its greenhouse footprint.
It is believed the E85 fuel, which is made from molasses - the by product of sugar refining - will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 50 per cent in the series.

The introduction of E85, a blend of 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent unleaded petrol, could also create for more interesting racing because more fuel stops will be needed, making for more strategy.
The move is also an attempt to prove ethanol is a viable alternative for road cars, while V8 Supercar chairman Tony Cochrane expected it would cost teams $7,000 less per car, per year in fuel.
