Sumitomo To Form Brazilian Ethanol Joint Venture, Nikkei Says

Sumitomo Corp., Japan’s third-largest trading group, said it is considering a bioethanol joint venture in Brazil as demand increases for renewable energy in the country.
The venture will aim to start production in 2011, Sumitomo spokesman Koji Furui said today by telephone from Tokyo,
without disclosing the identity of the partner. Sumitomo will hold less than 50 percent in the venture, he said, without giving details.
Sumitomo plans to spend as much as 30 billion yen ($281 million) to create the venture, the Nikkei newspaper reported today, without saying where it got the information.
