Ethanol Is Not a Money Saver
By Mr Ethanol | September 8, 2008
Wall Street Journal:
In his Aug. 27 letter, Agriculture Secretary Edward T. Schafer states that “renewable energy is a tremendous American success story” and that “in 2007, consumers in Texas saved between $2.5 billion and $4.5 billion at the pump thanks to ethanol.”
I challenge Mr. Schafer
to prove that Texas consumers saved a penny last year due to ethanol, much less the billions of dollars which he brags about.
Ethanol is a dismal American failure story. After 30 years of ethanol production, all that the U.S. could produce in 2007 was less than 3% of our oil demand. And that small amount of ethanol cost the taxpayers $3.3 billion in subsidies. More.
