True Cost Of Ethanol Is Not Worth It

A weakening housing market, rising food costs and skyrocketing gas and transportation costs dominate the headlines and monopolize conversations at the workplace, grocery store and the gas pump.
It’s no surprise that in both national and statewide polls that consumer confidence is down to some of the lowest levels in years. According to the most recent University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll, “only 12 percent of New Hampshire adults believe the U.S. will experience good economic times in the next 12 months, 70 percent think we will have bad times, and 19 percent think things will be mixed.”

It’s no wonder that politicians and citizens alike are searching for solutions, because what’s happening in the Seacoast region, across the country and globally aren’t isolated events. They are interconnected in ways thought unimaginable a decade or two ago.
It’s no wonder then, as we reported in Seacoast Sunday last week, the 21st century version of home and community “Victory Gardens” is taking root.
These plots — which during World War II numbered some 20 million and created some 40 percent of the nation’s produce - are growing in number. People are gaining control over their food choices and their quality of life as well. Read full post.
