CNBC:
Our ethanol story on Friday sparked a significant reaction from Fast Money viewers. Here’s what some of you had to say.
(Don’t) support Big Oil’s grip on the transportation energy market. Study after study shows that ethanol - yes even corn ethanol - has a net energy gain of 25% while converting oil into gasoline is a net energy loss of around 25%.

Converting FEED CORN (which is what the ethanol plants use) that is grown to feed livestock does not and is not taking food away from people. After the sugar from the corn has been used to make the alcohol the distiller grain left over which contains the protein & fats from the kernel goes to feed livestock anyway.
Start comparing how gasoline is made to how ethanol is made and anyone will be able to see that ethanol is far superior by any measurement from (energy gain/loss, water usage, energy independence etc).
