Future May Be Driven By Ethanol

    By Mr Ethanol | April 16, 2008

    Sydney Morning Herald:
From 2010 all standard unleaded petrol could be 10 per cent ethanol, writes Jennie Curtin.

Filling up with ethanol-petrol blends may be the way of the future for NSW motorists, despite figures released today showing the vast majority of drivers are reluctant to do so.

At an ethanol conference in Sydney last week, the Premier, Morris Iemma, suggested the Government may legislate to force oil companies to make all standard unleaded petrol E10 (10% ethanol) from 2010. This means drivers who cannot use E10 would have to buy ethanol-free premium fuel.

There is still much confusion about ethanol. Can all cars use it? Is it as environmentally friendly as thought?

Eco posed some questions to experts at the CSIRO.

    What is ethanol?
