    New Ethanol Fuel Arrives

    By Mr Ethanol | April 10, 2008

    Scott County Times:
Tired of rising gas prices? An alternative to unleaded gasoline is now available for select makes and models of vehicles.

The BP station on East Third Street (U.S. Highway 80 across from Community Bank) will sponsor a “grand opening” of a new fuel pump making “ethanol 85” fuel available to the area.

The grand opening will be held between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday. During those hours, the new fuel will sell for $1.85 per gallon.

Lessie Hall, station manager, said the new fuel could help ease the burden of gas prices by providing better alternatives.
“The good thing is that it is made here. It is not fuel that we have to get from another country,” Hall said. “It is catching on and I think it is here to stay.”

The grand opening site is the only location in this area making ethanol available.
Ethanol fuel has an octane rating of approximately 97.1 and utilizes a mixture of corn in the fuel, which is environmentally friendly.

Ethanol contains oxygen which helps regular gasoline burn more cleanly. That’s why gasoline enriched with ethanol burns cleaner, more completely and more efficiently with lower carbon monoxide (CO) and harmful tailpipe emissions.
In the United States, there are more than 110 ethanol production facilities, with 75 more currently under construction.

Not all vehicles are able to process ethanol fuel. Motor companies already adapting their products include Daimer Chrysler, Ford/Lincoln, General Motors, Isuzu, Mazda, Mercedes/Benz, Mercury and Nissan.
