Motorists To See More Ethanol
By Mr Ethanol | December 6, 2007
Winnipeg Sun:
Over the next few weeks, Manitobans will likely see more and more ethanol-blended gas popping up at their local pumps, but the province’s energy minister says that’s not likely to hit people’s wallets any harder.
Jim Rondeau, Manitoba’s energy minister, announced that beginning Jan. 1, 5% of all the gas sold in the province must be replaced by ethanol — which is done by blending the alcohol with gasoline.
The province will likely move to its final target of 8.5% by April 1, said Rondeau.
Regulations outlining penalties for gasoline retailers that fail to meet the standard will be introduced before the end of the month, but Rondeau said he does not expect to have to enforce them.
“We have had great acceptance in Manitoba of ethanol so far,” he said. “We don’t believe there will be any resistance to it.”
