Biorefining Industry Is Handling Changes
By Mr Ethanol | November 5, 2007

Albert Lea Tribune:
The ethanol industry is one just emerging from its infancy, but like all adolescents, it is going through many changes as it grows up. Changes include technology in the refineries, the practices of the farmer and agricultural advances in the field.
The ethanol industry was in part created to give farmers another market for their corn, another outlet to sell their product and raise its value, said Poet East General Manager Rick Mummert.
“Here we sit in the middle of the Corn Belt, so certainly we’re going to look at corn,” he said.
In addition to bringing stability to the agriculture sector of the economy, this new avenue for farmers has benefited local economies in recent years.
“If you can give the farmers an extra dollar, they’re going to spend that on Main Street,” Mummer said.
