Crist Aims To Boost Ethanol Trade With Brazil With 6-Day Trip
By Mr Ethanol | October 29, 2007

Vero Beach Press-Journal:
When Gov. Charlie Crist leads a Florida business mission to Brazil this week, he’ll find South America’s largest nation enjoying its best moment in years, perhaps in decades. Brazil’s economy is humming, its democracy is strengthening and its ethanol industry is a model for alternative energy.
Nearly 200 business and government leaders, including dozens from South Florida, will join Crist on the six-day trip, the governor’s biggest overseas mission to date. They aim to boost commerce, investment and tourism with the country that is the state’s No. 1 trade partner.
Crist is especially keen to learn more about how Brazil developed its strong bio-fuels industry. Drivers in the U.S.-size nation now can pump 100 percent ethanol into their cars instead of gas, and Brazil’s 190 million residents no longer rely on imported oil.
“In Florida in the 1970s, ethanol blending was commonplace, but we lost that capability,” said the state’s secretary for environmental protection, Mike Sole, who is taking part in the mission. “Brazil’s experience shows the opportunity exists to convert to ethanol and bio-fuels, whether from sugar, cellulose or other sources.”
Florida exporters are bullish on Brazil. Read full article.
