Mercer Energy is one of the country’s first ethanol producers to utilize a revolutionary production technology that maximizes the economic viability of ethanol as a source of alternative fuel.
In addition to the production of clean-burning ethanol for use as fuel, Mercer Energy’s innovative HydroMill(TM) ethanol plant employs a corn-fractionation process that creates high-quality feed products. The plant recently received approval from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2008.
“The corn-fractionation process our proposed plant employs will allow Mercer Energy to create additional revenue, higher profitability and long-term sustainability in the industry for all feed and fuel products,” said Ryan J. Schwieterman, president and CEO of Mercer Energy.
Unlike the more conventional dry-mill ethanol production process, the HydroMill fractionates the corn it uses to produce ethanol into these feed products – germ, protein and fiber feed products. The high-quality feed products will be widely sought after in the livestock industry because of their high levels of protein and fiber.
By the creation of these feed projects, the HydroMill process leverages additional revenue streams for the production of ethanol. Also, ethanol’s potential as a viable alternative to standard gasoline continues to increase with the utilization of new technologies, such as Mercer Energy’s HydroMill process.
