    Ethanol Industry Group Hires Lobbyist

    Forbes:
The National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition hired Michael B. Haigwood to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.
The lobbyist will work on issues that deal with the development of alternative fuels, renewable energy technologies and the environment, according to the form posted online Wednesday by the Senate’s public records office.

The industry group advocates greater usage of ethanol-based fuel called E85, which is 85 percent ethanol.

There are about 5 million “flexible fuel” vehicles in the nation that can handle E85. However, the Jefferson City, Mo.-based group reports that only 1,145 public stations - out of roughly 167,000 retail gas outlets nationwide - offer the fuel.

The group’s broad coalition of members includes the Ford Motor Co., ethanol producer VeraSun Energy Corp. oil and natural gas company Murphy Oil Corp.

Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches. They must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.
