Brazil Ethanol Co Cosan Sees Expanding Trade With US
By Mr Ethanol | June 4, 2007
Cattle Network:
A top executive of Brazilian ethanol exporter Cosan SA said logistical problems in the U.S. ethanol market bodes well for Brazil’s future as a U.S. ethanol supplier, the local Estado newswire reported Monday.
“They have logistical problems and cannot supply everyone at all times, especially in places far away from where ethanol is produced,” said Rubens Ometto Silveira Mello, Cosan’s chief executive officer.
U.S. ethanol is produced from corn, while Brazil produces ethanol from sugarcane.
Earlier this year, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush sounded a similar alarm in Sao Paulo about the difficulties of ethanol distribution in the southern U.S. states.
Bush is now co-chairman of the Interamerican Ethanol Commission, led by the Inter-American Development Bank. The commission works as a quasi-lobby to promote ethanol use throughout the hemisphere.
