Japan To Subsidise 3 Ethanol Plant Projects
By Mr Ethanol | May 31, 2007

Yahoo! Asia News:
Japan’s farm ministry awarded about 6 billion yen ($49.36 million) on three projects to help them make ethanol from farm produce and lessen the usage of gasoline, a government official said on Thursday.
The Ministry of Agriculture aims to promote ethanol distilled from what might otherwise be agricultural waste, such as excess farm products or those not for food use, so that such production would not put food and fuel into competition.
Japan largely relies on food from abroad as cheaper imports have driven many farmers out of business and into the cities.
But Hokkaido, Japan’s northern main island, is an exception as large-sized farming is common there. There are also large-sized rice farmers in Niigata, central Japan, one of the top rice producing prefectures.
Following are summaries of each plan to be carried out by a lead project manager…
