Pacific Ethanol Chairman Sells 174,000 Shares

Pacific Ethanol Inc.’s chairman of the board has sold 174,000 shares of stock at prices ranging from $14.35 to $14.78 per share from May 16 until Tuesday.
William L. Jones, a former California secretary of state and one of the ethanol company’s earliest investors, owned 1.4 million shares of the Sacramento-based company after the sales, a more than three percent stake. The sales were disclosed in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Pacific Ethanol president and chief executive officer Neil Koehler sold 2,912 shares at $16 each on May 14.
Separately, Microsoft founder Bill Gates bought 1,000 shares of Pacific Ethanol’s stock for $14.28 per share on Friday, according to an SEC filing. Gates and his Kirkland, Wash. investment banking company Cascade Investment LLC own more than 10 percent of the ethanol company’s shares.
